JOCELYN MOVEMENT
BALLET AND YOGA

ABOUT ME
Hi, I’m Jocelyn Chng. I believe that every body is unique. To respect and understand the body is one of the most valuable and important skills anyone can have. This goes a long way towards facilitating more freedom and range of movement, and minimising the risk of injury in daily life. Movement practices are a way to help us achieve this better understanding of our body, a key step to personal wellbeing and happiness, which I believe are goals that many of us aspire to.
Moving along this path, I teach ballet, and more recently, yoga. I have taught all ages from children to adults and seniors. I incorporate somatic approaches and understanding when I teach, firmly believing in fostering a safe and respectful learning environment.

BALLET FOR ADULTS
The most common misconception about ballet is that it is only for certain body types, or it cannot be taken up in adulthood. This is definitely not true.
Ballet is a movement form like any other; it can and should be done for sheer enjoyment and the benefits that come with learning about the body. If taught and practised in a way that respects the body's biomechanics and safe movement principles, there is no reason why an adult (unless with particular serious physical challenges), should not try ballet.
Feel free to get in touch to discuss your particular situation!
I currently teach the Ballet for Adults I & II classes at LASALLE College of the Arts:
YOGA

Yoga in today’s commercial studio context has tended to focus overwhelmingly on the execution of poses (asana), and is often approached as a fitness or workout activity.
However, I quote my teacher Ms Nitya Mohan: yoga is a “work-in” and not a work-out. Simply getting into poses without a deeper understanding of the breath and movement principles that support the pose, defeats the purpose of practicing yoga. When I teach, my goal is to facilitate this deeper understanding, providing a stronger support for students’ overall health and well-being.
